Car trouble again – My accelerator is sticking

It’s rather embarrassing to admit, but at first I couldn’t even figure out what was going wrong – all I knew was that when I had the clutch depressed, the car was accelerating as well. Then it just stopped happening all by itself, for a couple of months.

Now it’s happening again, and this time I realized straight away: When I press the accelerator pedal, it’s not releasing by itself, not all the time, but often. It ranges from annoying; when I’m at a traffic light and the car isn’t even in gear, to outright dangerous; when I am in reasonably fast-flowing traffic, and the car suddenly starts to “run away” with the potential to crash into the car in front of me.

And all this when I am about to start a new job, one that will involve driving much further every day. Anyone know how to fix this?
